Italy is one country which is fortunate to be surrounded by scenic locations in all directions. This makes Italy one of the idea destinations for adventure travel. In fact the sheer variety of adventure on offer makes Italy, a most sought after travel destination.  Not only do you have nature and scenery in abundance, you are surrounded by history, art and architecture throughout Italy.

The Alps lying on the northern part of the country offer a wide variety of winter sports. There are several ski resorts from where you can explore the scenic beauty of the region. Lake Garda, the largest among all Italian lakes is also located in the close vicinity of the Dolomite Mountains and offers a wide variety of water sports. The lake is particularly popular for windsurfing. The steep mountains surrounding the lake cause strong winds which are every windsurfer’s delight. The place is also a delight for all boat enthusiasts, who flock the lake region, particularly during the summers. Sailing, diving and water skiing on the Garda are also popular with adventure travelers to this part of the world.

For those looking for adventure tourism in Italy, the west coast, which consists of the five towns of Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso, are some of the places to head for. The rocky beaches are a great place to enjoy water sports.

Adventure travel in Italy cannot be complete without the gondola or ferry rides in Venice. This beautiful city with its myriad network of water ways and unique water taxies known popularly as gondolas has something on offer for every adventure seeker. Whether it is exploring the city on a gondola or taking a guided walking tour around the city, you will never be short of fun options when here.  The city is beautiful architecturally and if you really want to travel in style, there are plenty of 5 star luxury hotels in Venice to choose from such as the Cipriani Hotel or the Danielli Hotel.  However, if you are on a budget, you can find plenty of cheap hotels in Venice as well.

Travel adventure at its best can also be found at the famous Tuscan Archipelago National Park in Italy. The Elba Island which is located within the national park region is a great place for kayaking. Several hiking trails can also be found in the national park, making it a favourite with those looking for fun filled adventure.

Italy offers so much for the adventurer traveller.  It has to be a top spot for anyone seeking European adventure tourism.
